Detailed Pond & Facility Information at our Stoneham Location
What to Expect on the Water
We have canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, rowboats, and sailboats available for rental. (Sailboats are only available for sailing season pass holders)
Standup paddleboards, swimming, and launching of personal boats are not allowed in order to protect the backup reservoir from possible contamination of invasive species or bacteria.
Named Spot Pond by Governor John Winthrop in 1632, the pond served the local Massachusett tribe as a freshwater source and fishing ground long before that.
Spot Pond is a great fishing location and is home to trout, massive Yellow Perch and Largemouth Bass.
There are three Islands on Spot Pond where you can get out and explore. Great Island is known to contain an old granite marker with the mysterious inscription “Where Shute Fell”. It is unknown who installed the marker, and for what reason. Possibly, it is related to a wrestler from Haywardsville, as many wrestling matches and prizefights were held on the island.
