Quick-Start Your Kayak in Kendall Square

This two-hour class is a quick primer so you can get out and enjoy flatwater kayaking. We begin with an introduction to the parts of a kayak,
Our Quick Start will show you the basics of recreational kayaking.
discuss clothing selection, then get on the water!
We'll cover launching and landing, basic propulsion and maneuvering strokes, and very basic bracing strokes to help prevent a capsize.
Quick-Start Your Kayak is designed for those who have taken no formal instruction, including those who have never kayaked before. Quick Start is for those who are looking to paddle recreationally in calm conditions on protected lakes, ponds, and flatwater rivers.
  
If you are looking to paddle in waves or on more open water like large lakes, ocean harbors, or open ocean — or if you want a comprehensive introductory class, including critical safety skills like rescues — take our Introduction to Kayaking instead. Quick-Start Your Kayak does not satisfy the pre-requisites for our Level 2 Kayak Trips.

Quick-Start Your Kayak meets for one 2-hour session at our T-accessible Cambridge location in Kendall Square.
$59 includes two hours of instruction, complimentary use of a plastic kayak, and one week of unlimited on-site practice time at any of our locations.
Registration & Cancellation Policies for Classes, Trips, and Tours
  • Full payment is due upon registration for a class, clinic, tour, or trip.
  • For cancellations received 7 days or more before your scheduled activity, we will issue a refund less a 10% registration fee.
  • For cancellations received less than 7 days before your scheduled activity, we are unable to offer any refunds.
  • Participants in all activities will be required to sign a waiver of liability. To save time, you can download this waiver and bring it with you.
  • Classes, clinics, and trips always run unless the weather is extreme.
  • A minimum number of registrants is required for any event to run. If we cancel a trip due to low enrollment, we will provide a full refund.
